We're going to start up the next season of HWJF but in the meantime I'm revisiting all the great Google Hangout episodes as podcasts. These have been modified to be audio only (the best one can with a visual medium).
Dave Bouwman shared his cutting-edge work in wildfire modeling and management. At DTSWildfire, he was leading the development of an awesome public-facing fire data viewer, creating wildfire risk maps (e.g., http://www.texaswildfirerisk.com), and modeling fires using a parallelized, more efficient version of Wildfire Analyst. Dave also spoke in detail about DTS's software architecture and business model. We concluded with a discussion about the exciting prospect of augmented reality devices for firefighters and the rest of us!
This was the second episode of HWJF. I don't think I ever enjoyed a better guest than Dave. He's always a good time and this was the first time I had him on.
